Our department in Singapore received an email yesterday saying that there is an important meeting today that we all have to attend.
Low and behold, our department will be relocated from Singapore to other countries, which means all of our roles are impacted.
I started building an income portfolio to prepare for this day when I will be retrenched. Even though my portfolio isn’t quite there yet, I always thought that when the day comes, I will be glad that I have some passive income to tide me through.
But honestly, the feeling of being retrenched sucks. Especially when you are in your 40s. The thought of going through another job search, interviews is a little taunting, given that I have been with my employer for the last 10 years.
My advice to anyone out there who haven’t started building a f**k you money portfolio, now is a good time to start. Eventually we will all be too expensive for employers to hire us.
