December 2022 Portfolio Update

It’s the most wonderful time of the year~ all my stocks and crypto are falling like no other daayyyyy~ it’s the most wonderful time of the yeeaaarr~ 😀

As mentioned in my July 2022 Portfolio update, I’ve split my portfolio these 3 category. Let’s go.

Income Portfolio

Holdings% Allocation%P/L
Syfe REITs18.5%-2.76%
Bank Stocks28%-0.89%
SSB (Singapore Savings Bond)53.5%NA

I have started this Income Portfolio in Jun 2022. I have mostly been buying SSB this year, which currently makes up 53.5%.

I have continued to use SYFE Robo advisor to dollar cost average (DCA) into the REITs+ portfolio every month. (Back to Basics: REITs Investing with SYFE Wealth) and OCBC BCIP (OCBC BCIP Review) to DCA into DBS every month,

I have also bought some OCBC shares using lump sum investments to beef up the bank stocks allocation. Looking to add UOB in the future.

Growth Portfolio

MSCI World ETF11.4% 35.19%
Ark FinTech3.4%-61.11%

Virgin Galactic0.3%-87.47%

(Amundi Prime USA Fund)

Growth portfolio is an interesting one. I bought Vanguard Growth, Value, MSCI, Ark FinTech, Ark Innovation, and Virgin Galactic between 2019-2020. And you can see which are the ones that aged well. Thematic ETFs and individual stocks did horribly. Broad market ETFs, on the other hand, survived pretty well.

I have recently added COIN, SPY and Amundi Prime USA Fund. The only reason I had COIN was because I was selling some put options, and I didn’t know how to roll over, and somehow I got assigned the shares. Expensive lesson.

Since my last July update, I have sold my Twitter (because it was delisted) and Hang Seng Tech ETF (I just wasn’t sure about China). I have also switched my Dimension Global Fund to Amundi Prime USA Fund on Endowus.

Crypto Portfolio

Holdings% Allocation
ETH44.19%
Others19.89%
USDC/BUSD35.92%

Most of my holdings are in ETH. For more details, you can check out this post on how I’m buying my Crypto bags.

Overall Portfolio

So here is my current overall portfolio including my cash holdings that I’ve set aside to buy more shares/ETFs in the coming months.

Doing this review has made me realised that:

  • sticking with a broad based index market fund might work better than a thematic one in a market downturn. A more than 50% loss means that that fund needs to be up more than 100% to recover my initial investments.
  • even in this market downturn, my overall portfolio is larger than I thought it was, so I probably don’t need to take on that much risk. I might have to rethink about my crypto portfolio.

Onwards and upwards!
